Basement flooding is generally caused by factors outside the homeowners’ control which include, but are not limited to, power failure or a primary pump failure.  Major insurance companies suggest battery backup systems for homes.  Homeowners’ insurance policies have limited coverage in cases of pump failure and some may offer a discount in premiums if a back up system is installed.
